Networks and distributed systems
Abstract:
Our concern is to cover as much technical material as possible concerning the environment of the WorldWideWeb. See our taxonomy of issues. Because of the time constraints of the seminar, not all of the topics can be covered, but we aim for a wide selection in each semester. Certain topics are essential and will be regularly addressed in invited lectures. We emphasize the application of modern concepts of information architecture. Subgoals include supplying the participants of the seminar with the knowledge required to create state-of-the-art documents; showing how to make their future sites more navigable to people; the thruput of valuable information using modern visualisation techniques; safety and security in a distributed open environment. The seminar will include topics on HTML 3.2, CGI-Scripts, Visualization with VRML (2.0) and Java(Script). Technical and theoretical understanding on the Internet, Http, Security bugs and text/document preparation will be provided. The participants will be able to use the facilities of the RVS-Net, a Sun Solaris-based Internet domain. This two-hour weekly seminar is led by Prof. Dr. Peter Ladkin and Ahmed A. Faisal.
